Higher education quality helps to nurture local talents. Singapore’s two leading universities – National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have taken the top two spots on the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking of 550 universities in Asia 2020.
Under Lee Kuan Yew’s influence, Singapore has made foreign talent development an important strategy. Hence Singapore’s immigration policy has always been liberal and straightforward. For example, the government offers scholarships to attract top students from other countries to study in Singapore. Some of these students are expected to serve Singapore for six years after graduation. In this way, Singapore will be able to retain their talents and many of these talents are also expected to transition into becoming official citizens.
